"Research on Next-Generation Packaging Materials Based on Vitrimers (Dynamic Covalent Networks)"
Our laboratory investigates the stress relaxation behavior of polymer materials incorporating dynamic covalent bonds to overcome the chronic limitations of conventional epoxy systems, such as residual stress and structural deformation (warpage/arching). By elucidating the quantitative correlation between molecular bond exchange kinetics and macroscopic deformation control, we aim to establish standard process guides for high-performance, next-generation semiconductor underfill and packaging applications that guarantee high reliability under 140–180°C processing and high-temperature reflow conditions.

"Shockwave-Driven Multiscale Patterning"
We use laser-generated shockwaves, short and high-pressure mechanical pulses, to form patterns on surfaces ranging from the nanometer to the micrometer scale. Shockwaves are conventionally regarded as destructive. We instead treat them as an energy field that can be shaped and directed. Our research follows two main directions. Shaping the shockwave. By passing the laser through a mask, we impose a designed shape on the shockwave. Notably, this shape is not simply transferred. As the wave propagates, it reorganizes into a different geometry. We visualize and predict this transformation and use it for micropatterning and information encoding. Shockwave annealing. Block copolymers typically require hours of thermal treatment to form ordered nanostructures. A shockwave achieves the same ordering within an instant, at room temperature. This makes it possible to pattern flexible films, heat-sensitive polymers, and curved surfaces that conventional annealing cannot accommodate. Together, these directions establish shockwaves as a fast, heat-free, and spatially controllable route to patterning across multiple length scales.
"Shockwave-Induced Molecular Mobility and Interfacial Diffusion in Polymers"
This research investigates whether laser-induced shockwaves can transiently enhance polymer chain mobility and promote molecular diffusion across polymer interfaces. By generating compressive and reflected tensile waves, shockwave loading may induce volumetric expansion, reduce local pressure, and lower the effective segmental relaxation barrier without sustained external heating. Using dye-loaded donor and neat receiver polymer layers, we examine how shock intensity, pulse number, polymer type, and film thickness affect cumulative interfacial transport while remaining below the delamination threshold. Ultimately, this work aims to establish a non-equilibrium platform for the localized and time-resolved control of molecular transport in polymers.
